The Albert Dawson Educational Trust was established in 2003 by Peter Rose to promote the study of 19th century British fine and decorative art, reflecting the outstanding Collection that he assembled in Brighton with his partner Albert Gallichan.
Following Peter’s death in November 2020, the Collection has been dispersed through legacies to museums and others and auction sales as provided for in his Will. This has made extra resources available to the Trust to enable it to begin a more substantial programme of grants.
As part of its aim to support appreciation of 19th century arts and artefacts the Trust can provide
- Support to exhibitions, publications, lectures and workshops.
- Support to research and to centres of teaching
- Financial assistance to students via provision of scholarships and bursaries.
‘As fashion turned full circle, by the 1980s Victorian art was in demand. Their collection became a reference point for anyone interested in the subject’ — Philippe Garner
